George Seurat

Painter Georges Seurat, along with fellow artist Paul Signac, founded the neo-impressionism movement. Perhaps more importantly, he developed the technique known as pointillism. Seurat was a quiet, modest, and private man who, unbeknownst to his family and friends, lived with a young model, Madeleine Knobloch. She bore him a son in the privacy of their studio, and it was not until two days before his death that he introduced his young family to his own mother. He contracted a form of meningitis and died unexpectedly in March of 1891 at the age of thirty-one.

Peru Nazca Lines

Theorized by Erich von Däniken to be runways of an ancient airfield made by beings from another culture (i.e., aliens), the Nazca Lines are a series of geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert of Peru. Created by the Nazca culture between 200 BCE and 700 CE, the lines range from simple shapes to complex geometric forms, and more than seventy are designs of animal, bird, fish, or human figures. While there is no way of knowing for sure the intended purpose behind the Nazca Lines, or their use, scholars generally ascribe religious significance to them.
